What if I’ve been out of work for awhile, what should I do?

by Deborah Knox on October 18, 2011

If you’ve been out of work for awhile and – this is always the tricky part – to determine what is “awhile” for the unemployed. For some it’s anything longer than 3 – 6 months. For others, it can be extended to the 2 year time frame for collecting unemployment benefits.  But during that phase, you are in what is called the “neutral zone.”For more information.

During this phase one can easily be and stay depressed or experience extreme mood swings thinking about new possibilities but still grieving the old.  It is difficult to stay motivated, but that is precisely what is required. It’s easy to give up and we’re not going to let that happen, are we? This is the phase where re-invention is most possible.  Are you still with me? If so, make a list of the 5 of the most challenging tasks you’ve accomplished in this period of time. And tune in for the next blog.
