I covered this topic somewhat when I introduced the New Employment Reality, but there’s even more happening out there in this arena. I’m so pleased to introduce the tools provided by the brilliance of Dan Pink. www.danpink.com to those of you who haven’t met him yet. Dan is the author of several books that knocked my socks off when I first was introduced to them.
From A Whole New Mind, Dan synthesizes the important questions people need to be asking in order to maintain their career momentum.
These questions are:
- Can someone overseas do it cheaper?
- Can a computer do it faster?
- Is what I’m offering in demand in an age of abundance?
With these 3 critical questions he helps us deal with the issue of competition (which is now global), technology (which is transforming every industry and field), and the critical question I ask all my clients “what needs doing in your world.?” (and what is it’s value to others?)
Pink is another advocate about the need for a new paradigm for the workplace which requires the following Right brain skills to flourish in the new world of work. (You’re right, here’s another checklist of skills you need to inventory.) Discover how these 6 concepts which he calls “senses” can help you meet the challenges of the new era:
- Design
- Story
- Symphony
- Empathy
- Play
- Meaning
I encourage you to learn more about these senses and how they apply to your field or industry) For more information go to www.lifeworktransitions.comor check out Dan’s books as well. Many thanks to Dan Pink for his generosity in helping to enlighten others

I love promoting others’ good work, especially when it reinforces a trend I’ve seen over the past 30 years.
